![]() After they have traveled some way in the darkness, Gollum disappears. Gollum leads Frodo and Sam to a long dark tunnel. He gives Frodo and Sam supplies and allows them to leave. Sam slips telling Faramir about the Ring, but unlike his brother, Faramir is not tempted by the ring as he sees its dangers clearly. They have some adventures on the way: seeing an Oliphant which amazes Sam, and meeting with a party from Gondor led by Faramir, the brother of Boromir. Gollum tells them of another way and they start off on their long journey. When he brings them to the main gates of Morder, they realize that there is no way for them to enter. Sam and Frodo capture Gollum and make him lead them to Morder. ![]() Evidently the lure of the Ring had brought him to follow Frodo. On their way they encounter Gollum, the creature from whom Bilbo had gotten the Ring in the Hobbit. While all of this is happening in the West, Frodo and Sam are heading for Morder making their way through first razorlike rocks and then vile swamps. ![]() The whole party then begins to head back to Rohan, but Gandalf, recieving information about Sauron's increasing activity, takes Pippin and heads off for Gondor. Gandalf confronts the captured Saruman and casts him fromthe council of wizards. At Saruman's stronghold of Isengard, Gandalf, Gimli, Legolas and Aragorn meet up with Merry and Pippen. The army of Rohan fights a great battle against Saruman which they win with the help of the Ents. They go with Gandalf to overcome evil in Rohan and gain the support of Rohan against Saruman. Gandalf tells them that the hobbits, Merry and Pippen, are safe with the Ents, the tree people of the forest. As they reach the edges of the forest, Fangorn, they meet up with Gandalf, who they thought had been killed in the mines of Moria. On the way they meet up with a detachment of soldiers from Rohan led by Eomer who oans them horses to continue on their journey. Srider (Aragorn), Gimli, and Legolas go after Merry and Pippen. The book begins as Froso and Sam have left for Morder and Merry and Pippen have been carried off by Orcs. They are leaving the shelter for a subsidized apartment, and the family is rebuilding its bond while also forming ties with the families of Deja's friends.The Two Towers is the second book of J.R.R.Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy and picks up where The Fellowship of the Ring leaves off. Her encouragement seems to help him recover.Īt the end of the story, Deja has two great friends and a family that is putting itself back together again. His honesty with her builds a bond of trust between the father and daughter and she sees that her dad is not a loser he is a hero. He has felt guilty for sixteen years about not being able to help save more of his work family. He was able to save one elderly lady but the building completely collapsed right after he got her to the ambulance. He was a security guard in the North Tower. ![]() It is not until Deja and Ben skip school to visit the Tower Memorial that Pop sees just how determined Deja is to know more about the Towers. She eventually finds a name tag in his suitcase that shows he was employed at the Towers, but she dare not bring it up to him for fear of upsetting him more. When he talks with her teachers and principal, however, he decides against it but he still will not talk with Deja about why the Towers upset him so much. He even walks her to school one day with the intent of transferring her to another school. ![]() It is the fifteenth anniversary of the attack and the school believes including it in curriculum will help students who were not even born at the time have a better understanding of the magnitude of the attacks as they kicked off the nation's war on terror.īut Deja's Pop does not want her learning anything about the Towers. They teach concepts like critical thinking and introduce a controversial topic - the 9/11 terror attacks on the World Trade Center Towers. By the end of the first day, though, Deja thinks she is going to like the school.īrooklyn Collective Elementary is more progressive than any school she has ever attended. At first she is defensive, afraid they will not like her when they learn she is homeless. On her first day of school, she meets a boy named Ben and a girl named Sabeen who seem to want to be her friend. Now, Deja is starting fifth grade at a new school.
